The Economic Consulting team is a group of 50 economists, based in London and Cambridge, working to apply best-in-class economic analysis to address real world issues in sectors ranging from financials services to healthcare, and telecommunications to fiscal policy. Economic Consulting work is intellectually challenging and varied, appealing to the brightest and most capable economists. Our team sits within our Financial Advisory business and brings together commercially-minded economists, econometricians and financial analysts to apply their combined skills to clients' business issues.

 

We deliver real value through areas such as regulatory or competition economics, cost analysis, price optimisation and value profitability analysis. Our technical skills are combined with Deloitte's deep financial, strategic and industry understanding to create a unique package that can be applied across industries.

 

The Economic Consulting team works for many of the world’s largest companies, including members of the S&P500 and FTSE100. You will get the chance to actively contribute to projects from day one, with early senior exposure and active participation in methodology development and client presentations. 

 

Role description

 

As an experienced economist joing the team, you will apply sophisticated economic modelling tools such as econometrics, financial modelling and general equilibrium modelling to provide solutions for business, consumer and regulatory issues facing our clients. Companies, regulators and governments look to us to help them understand economic issues impacting their business and policies, and your technical expertise will ensure you are seen as a trusted advisor in helping them make crucial decisions.

Responsibilities

 

As an Economist you will:

  • Develop analytical solutions to a wide range of client issues.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of robust analysis using approaches such as econometrics, financial modelling and dynamic general equilibrium modelling, using a range of softwares and analytical tools.
  • Communicate effectively with clients through presentations, reports and meetings.
  • Collaborate with others within a challenging environment at the leading edge of economic thinking, using your curiosity, economic expertise, and critical thinking to analyse high profile and complex problems facing businesses, regulators and governments.
  • Engage with clients and strengthen your industry relationships.
  • Take responsibility early in your career, including supervising, coaching and mentoring your own teams.
  • Work effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution.

 

Requirements

 

  • Professional experience as an economist.
  • A Master’s Degree (or higher) in economics or econometrics.
  • Significant quantitative modelling experience in one or more of the following areas:  
    • Econometrics and statistics
    • Financial economics (e.g., asset pricing, options/derivatives modelling, credit risk modelling)
    • General equilibrium modelling (e.g., CGE or DSGE modelling)
  • Experience in working with large datasets
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: R, Python, SAS
