This is an exciting opportunity to set up a new Solution Architecture Function within Deloitte.  This opportunity also allows the candidate to hire a new team and to establish both standards and processes which will ensure the development and delivery of innovative, robust and secure solutions. 

Role description

You will head up the Solutions Architecture team within Deloitte’s ITS Business Applications department and report to the Head of Business Applications. In the early stages of the role you will need to hire and set up the team in terms of people, processes and standards. 
Once established, you will be responsible to for managing a small team (approx. 10 FTE) of Security and Solutions Architects across the UK. Depending on your location you will be expected to travel occasionally to other Deloitte sites. As part of the Business Applications Leadership team you will also be expected to contribute to departmental innovation and improvements.


This role can be based out of any of our UK offices.

Your team will be responsible for developing the low level design from target state architectures, covering all elements of the technology stack from infrastructure, cloud, network, data, application and security. The team will work closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure designs are aligned with strategy and Technical Implementation Managers to ensure the design are implemented as per plan. There will be a strong focus throughout the design phase on data security and privacy.  You will be capable of defining and implementing secure systems, multiple complex interfaces (on premise and SaaS solutions) and secure data structures in both legacy and leading edge technologies.  You will be able to map out solutions and determine short (quick wins), medium and long-term strategic architectures that increase security, reduce risk and still deliver benefit to the Business at a reduced complexity and cost.  
You will be responsible for prioritising and managing the team’s pipeline of work in a rapidly changing environment.  You will ensure designs are aligned to the IT strategy / roadmap and Development Standards, providing architecture input to project and programme governance boards.  You may also be required to ensure technical reviews, guidance and troubleshooting assistance is provided from time to time into Technical teams. You will have the ability to talk to different stakeholders (from SMEs to IT leadership), being able to demonstrate the value of the proposed designs and rationale for decisions made.



  • Experience of managing a small team (up to 10) – provide demonstrable examples of where you have coached team members to perform to their best abilities; resource planning and forecasting skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of operating systems, system security, hardware and database management (predominately Microsoft stack, LAMP and Open Source would be beneficial)
  • Demonstrable experience in Technology Solution Architecture and design – from a target architecture, application and security architecture perspective; be able to provide examples where solutions met functional, non-functional, security and privacy requirements
  • Design & implementation of end-to-end data and application architectures; conceptual, logical and physical modelling
  • Experience working within software development or SaaS / cloud architecture groups
  • Understanding of Front end and back end technologies (e.g.  SAP, .NET, C#, SQL Server, Azure, Apache)
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies, learn quickly and pass on this knowledge to other team members
  • Managing security review meetings and ability to influence cross-functional teams of DevOps engineers and developers driving a security culture.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps tools, automation and methodologies used to deploy solutions within a cloud platform
  • Understanding of test frameworks for automated testing/compliance
  • Working knowledge of software development tools and methodologies (Continuous integration, git, Jenkins, etc.), microservices and container-based systems (Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos)
  • Experience in Agile and Waterfall delivery methods in a large-scale Programme Delivery environment
  • Architecture Governance & Best Practice - Strong verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate architecture decisions to management and developers


  • Experience with IT compliance and risk management requirements (e.g. security, privacy)
  • Familiarity with industry compliance and security standards (ISO27001, PCI-DSS, etc.)
  • Cyber security related certifications/designations, such as: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • AWS and/or Azure Certified
  • TOGAF accreditation or BCS Chartered Professional or Fellow in Solution Development & Architecture
  • Project Management certification (PRINCE2)
  • ITIL V3.0 Foundation certification
  • Microsoft Certified Professional
  • MSc Enterprise Architecture or MSc Software Engineering
